In this lecture I will explain what I will be covering in this section, including why this course is so special, the trough of transition, breaking rules, the evolution of a hire, and the 4M method of career management.

  • Distinguish why information is what there is to discover vs. a job.
  • Finding Your Wells Exercise.
  • Journaling: Given your research projects, what levels would you reach out to? Make a list of the titles, roles and positions of the folks you would target.
  • Research organizations to approach based on areas of desired engagement, classifieds exercise of industries of interest, resparking exercise areas of fascination, questions you want answers to, etc. (collectively, we'll call these your "Areas of Research" or "Research Projects").
  • Research specific people to target out of those organizations and find the person two levels higher than the level you'd generally go in at.
  • Review your "Finding Your Wells" list of people you already know, and see who might either know something about your areas of research or might know someone who knows about your area of research.
  • Create a "Career Tribe" Approach list from all of the above.

  • Practice: If working through this program with a buddy, practice The 5 Stages of a Stealth Interview with each other! If not, get on the LinkedIn Group and find someone to practice with...if even by phone or video call. Remember: you want to be IN FRONT of people, IN THE FLESH, when you conduct these meetings, but for the sake of at least practicing, utilize the community for support.
