This question is usually the first one asked by a interview panel. As such it 'sets the scene' and affords you the opportunity to make a great first impression.
Activity - tell me about yourself - a personal commercial
This is known as a stress question and is one that people fear. In this video you will examine why not to use minor weaknesses or standard answers, such as "I don't know when to stop" or "I work too hard".
After this session you will be able to turn this question into an opportunity to be positive about your skill set.
Activity - what are your weaknesses? - the STAR approach
People often find 'up selling' or promoting themselves to be difficult and therefore may play down their skills.
After this video you will be able to ensure the skills you highlight are ones that match an interviewers needs and wants.
Activity - what are your strengths?
This video will examine topics to stay away from and conversely which ones to highlight in order to give the best impression.
Activity - why are you leaving your current job?
This session will cover how to give a professional and positive answer which highlights why you have chosen their company / role specifically to apply for.
It will also cover the importance of pre-interview role and company research and where your 9 primary information sources are likely to be.
Activity - why did you apply for this position?
This session obviously does not come with a free crystal ball! However, we will examine how to convey that you are; ambitious, career orientated, committed to the company you work for and realistic about your career goals and the steps you need to take to get there.
Activity - where would you like to be in 5 years time?
After this video you will be able to construct a professional and polished answer with elements of; how you can benefit the company, your qualifications, up-selling your personality traits and the importance of providing evidence.
You will also learn the importance of ensuring you accentuate how you can benefit them, even if these elements aren't ones that are actually of significance to you.
Activity - why should we hire you?
So how do you answer "what do you think you are worth?!", which in its bluntest form is essentially what is being asked here.
We will cover the pre-interview research you need to undertake, as well as a 'formulae' for constructing an answer which either plays down or plays up your expected salary.
Activity - what salary are you expecting?
This session will cover; acceptable reasons for employment gaps and how these can be given a 'positive spin'.
We will also look at how you can answer this question if you have been made redundant or fired.
Activity - how do you explain a gap in your employment?
This is usually the last question that can you will be asked during an interview. As such it is impossible to overestimate how important it is to have a couple of; well thought through, relevant, company and role specific questions to ask.
We will cover skilful answers as well as things that should not be asked here.
By the end of the video you will be able to conclude your interview on a positive note which shows your interpersonal communication skills to their best and has you being remembered for all the right reasons!
